My Students

My students are driven, creative and enthusiastic learners who come to school each day with exuberance for learning. It is important for our youth to be financially literate by understanding how to invest their money and watch it grow to pay for their future education. They are taking business classes to open up their minds to business careers and develop life long skills which they will apply every single day in their young adult life and beyond. They ask in depth questions and when they find a topic they are interested in they crave more knowledge and hands-on learning opportunities.

My Project

My personal finance students have been playing The Stock Market Game, managing portfolios and learning about the history of the stock market. Through the Stock Market Game, they are gaining a fundamental understanding of investing and how they might get their money to work for them. Most importantly, The Stock Market Game helps them develop positive money habits and prepares them for their future. But this is only one part of our Personal Finance curriculum which is a ½ year course.

It is important for our youth to be financially literate by understanding how to invest their money and watch it grow to pay for their future education.

I am currently working on developing the curriculum for next year's Investing class and will expand on all of these areas and more. I am hoping to have all the students participate in a program called Young Investors Society-a non-profit organization that provides leadership and investment management experience for high school aged youth. YIS gives high school students a unique opportunity to learn fundamental, long-term investing in an exciting and interactive way.

I would like to give the students who take this class the opportunity to read the books associated with Young Investors and give them the chance to participate in all the activities associated with Young Investors, including a program called Certified Young Investment Analyst (CYIA™) which shows:

-That you’ve mastered the fundamentals of stock analysis.

-That you’ve studied for and passed a rigorous examination, that covers advanced financial concepts.

-That you maintain a stellar GPA.

-That you’re uniquely prepared to major in business, finance or accounting.

The two books I’m requesting are used to help students study for/prepare for the exam. What an amazing way to show your knowledge and work ethic to potential colleges and employers!
