Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach first grade at a Title I School in the inner city. Our school population is changing this year due to redistricting. Due to the redistricting, our population of students will be 95% Latin American.

My students are inquisitive and enjoy learning!

They do have a lot to learn, however, as they are learning two languages, one in the classroom and one at home. I want to make sure that I am doing the best I can to teach them while they are with me during the day.

My Project

I would love my students to be able to make their own Kaleidoscopes with the Hygloss Products Kaleidoscope kits. So that my students can plan and conduct an investigation to determine the effect of placing objects made with different materials in the path of a beam of light. The instructional delivery will engage students in a hands-on experience to gather information about how light passes through different materials.

The focus of this lesson is for students to investigate how light passes through different materials.

This lesson introduces new concepts and vocabulary. The vocabulary in this lesson includes the words transparent, translucent and opaque and has students engage in oral exchanges with peers to build vocabulary.
