Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students need to be exposed to technology and cannot afford their own calculators let alone graphing calculators!
My students are in high school from the inner city in California.
Our school is a smaller school with less than 600 students in total. My students rarely can afford all their school supplies and are hardly exposed to the type of technology that they should be familiar with. Usually their first exposure to technology in the math classroom is when they get to it in high school.
My Project
Our school currently has a few graphing calculators that we share among the various teachers and that we split into smaller groups requiring students to share calculators when we use them in class. Increasing the number of graphing calculators will help more students access them and become familiar with the technology they will need and use in college.
Increasing the number of available graphing calculators means more students will be able to either share with only one additional student or have their own graphing calculator to use during a class activity.
The more students are comfortable with technology like graphing calculators the more they will be comfortable with advance math and the type of technology and math they will need to be comfortable with when moving beyond high school.
