My students need scientific materials including specimens and insect habitats to help explore the wonderful world of insects, one of the Next Generation Science Standards for Kindergarten.
My students come to school every day excited to learn! They are smart, curious, creative, and hardworking. They love to read, love to explore, and love to learn new things.
Many of my students come from low-income households and do not have access to educational materials or preschool prior to beginning kindergarten.
Our goal is to have students reading, writing, adding, and subtracting by the time they leave kindergarten. As their teacher, my goal is to provide my students with the love, support, knowledge, and resources they need to be successful.
My Project
My Kindergartners love science! The more hands-on, the better. Science should be engaging and exciting! There should be observations, experiments, touching and manipulating, exploring and questioning. Part of our Next Generation Science Standards in Kindergarten is determining what plants and animals/insects need to survive, and how they change their environment to suit their needs.
I love bringing science to life for my Kindergarten class; their retention of curriculum is much better when learning is hands-on and captures their interests!
These supplies are a combination of live specimens, habitats and life cycle models from Carolina Biological that my kids will use to engage in learning about science. Live insects are a lot of fun in a classroom, and these ladybug, praying mantis, ant, and beetle specimens will be such an exciting addition to our classroom.
