Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Learning about the human body should be easy since we all have one, but we just can't see what's going on inside!
My students are creative, hard-working fifth graders who attend a gifted and high-ability magnet school.
Many of them are identified as intellectually gifted; many more are high achievers. They put great time and effort into demonstrating understanding of core subjects and push themselves to meet the high expectations required of them. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and live in many different parts of our community. We all converge at school each day to meet the required standards in ways that allow for creativity, divergent thinking, and high-level application.
My Project
Our core science standards include the human body systems. Models of the human body organs and systems will help students investigate in a hands-on way how parts of the human body function and interact. With models, students will be able to see, touch, and manipulate parts of the human body so they can better understand how they work.
Hand-on science is a big part of our core curriculum, but in the study of the human body we are often limited to 2-dimensional diagrams and drawings.
3-Dimensional models will help students hold, investigate, and learn about what happens inside their body systems.
