Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students walk into school with beautiful smiles and are eager to learn. I want to provide them with the best tools possible to be successful. My school is a dual-language elementary school with a focus on nurturing bilingual, bi-literate and multicultural children.
Many of the students come from very low-income homes, one-parent households, and it is unbelievable the hurdles they have been able to overcome.
With your support, these students will grow up to be bilingual, responsible, and caring community leaders.
My Project
In the middle of 2020, we are living in a time of a pandemic while witnessing the world stand up for anti-racism and equality. Young minds are so impressionable, therefore I believe that a classroom is a great place to introduce and promote inclusion and acceptance of diversity.
The materials I've chosen will help me teach my students the greatness that can be achieved among discriminated races and they will help me foster the effort it takes to make sure our peers feel welcomed and safe.
These young minds need a variety of resources appropriate for their age to learn these essential topics. I have chosen a variety of resources that can be used to role play, explain, and understand the topics of unity. The dolls, building blocks and magnetic play sets represent multiple backgrounds and are reflective of my students. In addition, they provide an opportunity to learn about the other cultures in our classroom. This can also be seen by the bilingual books I have chosen for our room.
Because of the trauma our students are experiencing, I also wanted to provide them with a positive outlet. Therefore, introducing them to ways to relieve their stress threw yoga, fidget toys, and calming wooden activities for breaks will be a calming escape for them.
Having these resources will allow me to teach my students about race, being kind to others, and that each person is special and unique.
