I teach an amazing group for third-grade students. Their abilities range from gifted to those experiencing serious delays. They are an energetic group. While many struggle in school, the group as a whole loves math! It is exciting to see their minds embracing third-grade math concepts. I love it when the light in their eyes comes on and I know that real understanding has just happened.
Reading is becoming a newly discovered passion for my students.
Three of my favorite books are "The Egypt Game", "Running Out of Time", and "Resist". I hope to share these books with my students during the spring semester.
A well-supplied school with loving, supportive adults provides a stable and safe place for my students who have experienced traumatic events. The trauma in their lives makes learning difficult because of the emotional roller coaster that comes with the trauma.
At our school, we do everything we can to provide students with advantages that provide them the opportunities to achieve great things. I tell them every day that each one of them will make a difference in the world.
My Project
I will use these books to help students determine the main ideas in paragraphs, chapters, and eventually the whole book. We will also be looking at point of view and the author's purpose.
Strong literature will help my students dive deeper into the written word.
It is my hope that these books, which are two of my favorites, will help my students develop a love of reading.
I will bring in non-fiction literature on related ideas so that we can compare and contrast the non-fiction with the fiction. Graphic organizers will help students organize their thoughts about fiction and non-fiction texts.
