Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
By the end of the semester I want my students to love to read and the book Into The Beautiful North is going to help get them to this goal!
My students are from very diverse backgrounds, but one thing they have in common is they are going to college!
They deserve this resource since they are focused and interested in learning and reading such an amazing book will promote engagement and teach them to have a new perspective on the world they live in.
My Project
The activity I will use the book Into the Beautiful North for is initially literacy. We will read the book as a class. Secondly they will choose a scene from the book tranform into the script and write it. Then they will enact the scene, film it and edit the film. All this will teach them about creative license and writing scripts and making film versions and how there is no one version. The purpose of this activity will be to teach them to develop and use their voice.
Reading this book opens a new exploration of the world around us.
If you haven't read this book you should! It shows a flip side to the journey north from Mexico to the USA than you might expect. It is a new kind of hero's journey. By getting to know the amazing characters in the book and seeing how the female hero accomplishes her dream of making her world a better place, this book project might even change their lives for the better by inspiring their own journey to fulfill their dreams.
