My Students
Itinerant Deaf Education means that I travel to different schools to work with deaf and hard of hearing students at their home campus. I travel to 5 to 7 different schools in a day. They are low socioeconomic and range in age from Kindergarten to 8th grade.
My students are behind in language acquisition because of their hearing loss which puts them at a disadvantage to their hearing peers.
I work with students in all grades and all settings to increase their language development through reading, writing and auditory training activities. I want my students to be able to communicate their needs and advocate for themselves now and in the future.
My Project
In trying to keep up with varying ages of my caseload, the students’ spectrum of needs, and the nature of itinerant teaching I have seen the benefit for mobile technology to be able to expand my student’s language and communication skills. A portable tool like an iPad with case would allow access to activities and resources that would otherwise be inaccessible.
iPads have numerous apps that help students with language and auditory skills and being portable makes it an ideal tool for an itinerant teacher.
Having a modern teaching resource like an iPad, that is reliable and has sufficient storage, would improve my students’ achievement by providing them access to a global network of information.
