Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my class come from a variety of unique and challenging backgrounds. Almost 70% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Our room is full of laughter, love, and learning.
My students come to school each day with a desire for knowledge and it is my job, as the teacher, to provide them with a safe, warm learning environment and the tools they need to be successful.
I want to provide my second graders with a flexible learning environment and better allow them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking.
My Project
I work hard each year to ensure a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable classroom environment for my students.
Our classroom is blessed with many great tools and supplies, however, we could use some PE equipment, kid-friendly furniture, as well as intervention resources and activities to effectively meet all of my students' individual needs.
For this project, I am requesting a variety of reading resources including phonics and sight word games, various partner and center activities, and a Scholastic Storyworks Jr. subscription. These products cover reading levels from pre-primer to 3rd grade. This will give me a variety of resources for my small group activities, to meet the specific needs of each each student.
Also, our school no longer has a PE teacher, and as a result, teachers are teaching PE to our own classes. I am in need of PE equipment, such as the jump ropes and group parachute to use during our PE activities.
Having kid-sized furniture will provide students with flexible learning spaces; this not only helps students feel comfortable and safe in our classroom, but also motivates them to learn and collaborate.
We are also in need of heavy-duty paper to use on bulletin boards to display our work, as well as colored paper.
