Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an ELA/Social Studies teacher to 50 curious, thoughtful, determined, and unique fifth graders. They come into my classroom each day excited and ready to learn.
My drive to help my students succeed is only matched by their drive to succeed.
They excitedly welcomed every opportunity to learn - especially in creative ways. I encouraged students to move around the room, advocate for themselves, and figure out what works best for their learning. It is my hope that these skills will stay within them as they move up in their education.
We are a Title I school where many students lack basic necessities at home. It is my hope to create a classroom where they find just as much comfort and choice as they find knowledge and opportunity. A student will always learn better in an environment where they feel safe, comfortable, and challenged.
My Project
his year, I have students who are at a variety of reading levels. Thus, they have a variety of needs when it comes to reading, writing, and language. This puts a great emphasis on the need for differentiated instruction and being able to work with small groups as well as individual students.
Fifth graders crave the ability to still be kids while they learn.
Being able to give them this is one of my greatest passions as an educator. I am very lucky to work in a school which offers an "intervention" period. This means I get to see my students for an extra block each day every other week.
My vision for this intervention period is to be able to have students working in small groups doing fun, engaging ELA games like the ones listed in my project. While they are doing these games, I will have the opportunity to pull small groups and individual students to work on the specific skills they need. Your donation will help to supply students with games that keep them engaged enough for me to have this opportunity and help them to strengthen their language knowledge. This will have a direct impact on their reading and their writing.
