My students need access to Scholastic News subscriptions, take-home book bags, and intervention resources to encourage nonfiction reading and extend their learning.
My special education intervention class consists of Kindergarten through 3rd grade students who receive support in specific academic areas. All students will benefit from these resources, but this project is mainly targeted for 2nd/3rd grade students who are struggling readers/writers.
My students are brilliant, fun-loving kids who are eager to learn but sometimes struggle to meet grade level benchmarks.
They love to read but often get embarrassed when their peers see their below-level reading books. This project will allow them to access nonfiction texts at their reading level that are "cool" and age-appropriate. The colored take-home bags will allow them to practice their new reading skills at home without anyone knowing the books are below-level, thus saving them any possible embarrassment.
My students are very excited to get their hands on these new materials! They helped pick out the colored take-home bags, so I know they will be popular with everyone. They will be responsible for keeping a log of books "checked out" and will be able to practice their reading at home. I know the pride they feel in having their own book bag will ensure they take good care of the materials! The other resources include: Scholastic News subscriptions, student dry-erase boards for small group work, pinch pencil grips for appropriate pencil grasp, common core activity cards, magnetic timers, star stickers for behavior charts, and place value boards to practice reading and writing numbers. These resources will support all students while receiving the best possible instruction in a small-group setting.
Thank you for your support!
As an intervention classroom, we have lots of great fiction resources but struggle to provide real-world, nonfiction texts. Helping the students reach their goals while maintaining their "cool factor" means more to our class than you could imagine! Our students will be excited to come to their intervention groups and even more engaged in learning than before!Read More
