Elementary gifted students excel when exposed to project-based learning, authentic problem solving, real-world collaboration, and innovation. I work with students in a gifted pull-out program where personalized learning meets passionate thinkers. My students design sustainable cities, create "edutaining" museums, and experiment with aquaponic gardens for Mars.
Elementary gifted students offer a wealth of possibilities for our future: curiosity, activism, optimism, intelligence, creativity, and collaboration.
My students have the skills and the will to acknowledge, inform and incite positive change for a global world. When uninterested or unchallenged, gifted students are more likely to wrestle with anxiety, social isolation, bullying, depression, and underachievement. That's what makes quality gifted instruction so important. They can and do change the world. With a rapidly changing world, gifted students need cutting edge, innovative tools and pedagogy to empower them for a limitless future. By learning the stories of other innovators and processes for successful classrooms, I can enhance our gifted programming.
My Project
SXSW Edu offers unparalleled stories of innovation, overcoming obstacles, positive cataclysms of change, and relevance in our ever-changing world. When I visit SXSW Edu, I will experience dynamic keynote speakers, networking to incite changes in policy, expos emphasizing the importance of play, exposure to new start-ups in the field of education, and student-led sessions addressing entrepreneurship.
Every child looks for a passionate leader who uses rigor and relevance to spark changes - changes in behavior, changes in attitude, and changes in our world.
The sparks of wisdom, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking at SXSW Edu will transform my own pedagogy and classroom design while also affecting policy within our district to create the most future-ready citizens.
