Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This public school strives to promote academic excellence through bilingual and multicultural education. Spanish dominant, English dominant and bilingual speakers develop fluency and literacy skills in both languages.
Through the school's dual language program, students affirm the values of their own cultures while acquiring an understanding, appreciation, and acceptance of other cultures and demonstrating social consciousness in a pluralistic world.
At this school, a caring, cooperative and accepting school climate is fostered to promote the social, affective and cognitive development of the whole child, and in which parents are active partners in the formal schooling of their children.
As the school dance teacher, it is my great privilege to encourage children in their love of movement and the performing arts. The curriculum ranges from classical technique to creative movement to traditional dance that honors the Pan American culture of our school community.
My Project
Earlier this year I won a grant to purchase tap shoes for an international tap project. In 5th grade, we will learn tap dance, born in the United States incorporating European and African rhythms, as well as Zapateado, a lively rhythmic dance from Mexico and Flamenco, the strong and passionate dance from Spain.
Your donations will complete our tap shoe collection so that every student has the tools to succeed every time he/she come to dance class.
The shoes are important because in the aforementioned dances, the sound of the movement becomes a part of the music and it is important for the students to not only see what they are creating, but to hear the choreography and have the sounds of their steps confirm a job well done.
