Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All of my 150 students are special, because each of them brings joy to my classroom in their own unique way. My kids love coming to class and enjoy learning Spanish. These kids are kind hearted and eager to learn more about their culture.
I love teaching them, because they exceed my expectations on a daily basis.
They enjoy learning new things everyday, and they love to participate in class.
Not all of my students live in a two parent household, where they receive guidance and help with their homework, so I make myself available to the parents and the students to help them in any way I can. I teach them to value their culture and be proud of who they are and where they come from. I also help them understand that they don't have to be victims of their circumstances, and that no matter where they come from, they all have the opportunity to succeed if they put their mind to it. I teach them to improve their Spanish, so that they can be better individuals in the future and have greater opportunities.
My Project
As a Spanish language teacher of multiple grades from 4th through 8th grade. I'm constantly explaining to all students the importance of math. That's why I wanted to show my Spanish class how important and universal math is.
This project is needed because it will be memorable and effective.
In class students will create their own resturaunt menu in Spanish. Next we will post their menus around the classroom using the clear pouches. I will introduce the carousel method to the students. With the iPad, students will use the App called Flipgrid to record themselves ordering in Spanish.
The carousel method is students walking from menu to menu selecting the items they want and then use their calculation skills. All students must show their wrok. Of course students will have to input taxes into thier calculations. With the LED board, I will write math vocabulary in spanish for student to use as they work. In the end students will learn that math is a life necessity.
