Our classroom is a safe place for students to come and know that no matter what is going on in their life, we will make them feel welcomed and accepted by everyone. The class is a mix of general education students, special education students, and students in need of Academic Intervention Services (AIS). These students come from a variety of economic backgrounds which means that the students come to us at many different levels.
Our classroom design and learning experiences help students develop tolerance for people from all walks of life.
Creating a comfortable learning environment and providing many different types of learning experiences contribute to the success of our students.
My Project
My goal is to provide fun and engaging learning opportunities for my students. Along with two of my colleagues, we will be designing Escape Rooms as an innovative way to teach our grade level curriculum.
Escape rooms will require students to use their problem-solving skills, add an element of competition to the lesson, and provide time for students to collaborate all while learning a specific skill or content.
The students will get clues that are related to the curriculum we are currently covering in the classroom. The laminating sheets will be used to laminate the clues so that I can use them again in the future. The post-it notes will be for the groups to use throughout the process. The iPods will be used for codes requiring a QR reader and also for clues utilizing the VR googles. Once students have completed all of the clues, they will be able to unlock the Breakout boxes! All of these materials will be put to good use creating a few different types of Escape Rooms throughout the year to cover the content.
