My Students

A typical day in our classroom is full of many different things happening. We have a lot of material to cover each day. We work on writing, reading, math, science, social studies, and many other things.

We are a 5th grade classroom with 22 students.

We are a high percentage of free and reduced lunch. Our students can be motivated when they are excited to learn the material! By introducing them to a first hand account of life in the Jamestown colony I hope to motivate them to love history!

My Project

We will use these books to study colonial America during our guided reading time. This will allow us to save time by teaching two things at once. Kids will do reading outside of group time and participate in lively discussions, write connections and questions about the text.

Students will gain a detailed understanding of the time period by reading these diary style books about a young girl living in Jamestown.

I have used these books in other buildings before and have seen how this historical fiction text really hooks kids into learning about the content.
