This coming school year I will be teaching at a school with a high number of students with mixed abilities who receive free or reduced-price lunches. I will be teaching 4th grade and am eager to build a classroom of critical thinking, real-world problem solvers who love to read! I hope to inspire my twenty-nine 9 and 10-year-old students with quality and rigorous texts. I want my students to know I believe in them and know they can succeed no matter what!
My Project
Interactive read aloud is an essential part of my everyday English Language Arts instruction. Interactive read aloud books need to be interesting, rigorous, and help teach an important concept or skill. Since we read a new book every day, my class needs fresh, new, and interesting interactive read-aloud books.
I have chosen a variety of books on different genres to cover various skills.
For instance, Hate that Cat by Sharon Creech would be an excellent read-aloud to teach students about poetic narrative. In addition, Junkyard Wonders by Patricia Pollaco would lend itself wonderfully to a discussion about the theme of overcoming obstacles and teamwork.
Students need to be immersed in rich vocabulary and classroom discussions. The read-aloud books I have chosen for this project will definitely broaden my students' reading horizons while helping them sharpen important reading skills!
