Kindergartners are curious and want to make sense of the world. They are constantly asking questions, looking at things in new ways, and wanting to know more. They are also learning how to be internationally-minded, confident, and caring community members. I engage my students and highlight their interests through powerful inquiry-based projects.
My school has a diverse population of students spanning all economic levels.
A large percentage receive free and reduced-price lunch. They live in rural Colorado and want to make a difference in the world. We can create magic in this room with your help!
My Project
These Osmo products are award-winning because they make technology interactive and give instant feedback. Using Osmo Genius Kits and Coding Awbie, students play beyond the screen by using special number, letter, tangram, and coding tiles. A special device in the Genius Kit attaches to the iPad and acts like a mirror, reflecting back the tiles that are laid down in front of it.
These materials will teach students to think, learn from their mistakes, and have them asking for more learning time!
Students will move through multiple levels of difficulty, learning at their own pace, keeping them challenged and engaged. They will know if their answers or correct or not in real time.
I will have this technology available to students during math and literacy centers. Students can use real tangram pieces from the Genius Kit during our geometry unit to make animals, shapes, and pictures. The numbers game, also in the Genius Kit, allows students to add, subtract, and even multiply numbers once they are ready. In addition, spelling is brought to life through the letter tiles. Students can start with simple cvc words and work their way to multi-syllable words in a thoughtful progression.
Lastly, Coding Awbie teaches logic skills and problem solving. We are doing a big unit on coding and this program fits in perfectly. Students use the physical blocks to create lines of code that then tell the iPad what to do. This is a great introduction to computer programming.
Thank you for considering this project. It will be a huge hit!
