Mrs. Avant-Elliott from Saint Louis MO is requesting computers & tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need tablets and headphones for a technology rich environment to access online instruction, supplemental materials, and adaptive learning tools. Students are typically visual and tactile learners so tablets are needed and headphones to minimize distractions when using technology.

I service students with disabilities and when they are in their special education classes there is no technology or resources available such as in a typical general education classroom. The students live in undeserved neighborhoods but have lots of potential. They are smart and talented and just have unique ways to learn. I enjoy serving this population of students because I get to help them realize their full potential.
My mission is to remove barriers to success so I need resources to help my students become successful.
I want to create a warm and welcoming learning environment where students feel empowered to learn and grow regardless of their abilities.
My students will be able to successfully access education in interactive ways and learn to engage independently using tablets and headphones during times we schedule for the computer lab. The use of tablets will help students better connect and process information in meaningful ways. The use of headphones will minimize distractions and allow students to concentrate on their individual tasks.
Technology allows students to access information beyond the materials provided by the school and aids in removing barriers to success.
The use of technology will help students meet their Individual Education Plan goals in reading, math, and other skills. As students begin to realize their potential they will become more confident learners.
