Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with 6th grade students in Campbell, Ohio. We are known as the ‘Melting Pot’ of the Mahoning Valley and it is reflected in the diversity of my students! Our cultural differences are celebrated and embraced.
Although their cultures are different, there is one thing they have in common: they love a good story! Even 6th graders, believe it or not, love to sit around me as I read them stories rich in culture and life lessons.
My Project
There is nothing more fulfilling as a teacher than to see your students moved by a great book! Whether they shed a tear, or make a realization about themselves…. Books can really touch the soul!
My goal is to open doors in my kiddos that they never realized were there. With these new books, I am hoping to create a spark in my kids that will ignite a lifelong love of literature one book at a time!
Authors like Polacco, Bunting and Woodson have a way of making people look at life through a different lens. They can make you laugh, cry and have moments of clarity that you might not expect from a picture book.
