My Students

I have 25 amazing students. They walk into my classroom everyday full of life, energy, and are ready to learn. They are big dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They love to listen to read alouds, especially interactive ones. As an extension of our reading hands, I'd like them to be able to have more opportunities to listen to a variety of books. They could go so much further in reading and writing when exposed to new vocabulary through interactive read alouds.

My Project

Interactive read alouds are purposeful activities that incorporate reciprocal teaching through a variety of genres. They tap into a readers' interest and enrich their vocabulary. Research shows that demonstrating read-aloud are most effective when children are actively involved asking questions and making predictions, rather than passively listening. They incorporate variations in pitch, tone, pace, voice/volume, pauses, eye contact, questions, comments, and vocabulary.

My students will eventually use these read-alouds to read independently.

They will also help with their writing and listening skills. I am very excited to incorporate this into my lesson each day. My hope is to see more growth in reading and writing.
