This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager to become strong, independent and fluent readers. On the first day of school reading is made available and they are aware or made aware they are already readers. They quickly learn to love to ready independently and enjoy reading to each other. They enjoy discussing and sharing their ideas and learning about their reading. They explore and discover many things through reading, as well as bring their unique perspective of a book during book discussions. Reading becomes a part of their daily routine to help them have a successful school year.

My Project

These reading materials will help actively engage my students during a read aloud. As I model, students will practice a skill and discuss the book throughout the read aloud. During comprehension questions students will have a deeper discussion about the skill they are practicing, as they use accountable talk with their peers.

They will actively think about one certain skill during each read aloud, for example, identifying characters traits, feelings and actions during a read aloud with their classmates.

They will have the opportunity to apply these skills during their independent reading. Students will be able to discuss books with a deeper understanding.
