Help me give my students an interactive notebook that they can refer back to all year long! 3-subjects to promote organization between reading, writing, and inquiry and highlighters to identify important concepts, main ideas, and academic vocabulary!
My students are such deserving individuals. Our middle school has a high percentage of students who come from low income families. Students at MMS have endured so much in their lives thus far. My goal is to ensure that this does not hinder anything they need to be successful, both in the classroom and in their future. I love teaching English because I am able to see them express themselves and flourish through their writing, reading discussion, collaboration, and creativity. Once again, these students are amazing human beings, who are very deserving!
My Project
After my first year of teaching, I am so pleased with the impact interactive notebooks had on my students. After reflection, I realized the piece that was missing was the organization, which is why I feel students would best benefit from a 3-subject journal for the 2019-2020 school year. The use of interactive notebooks play a vital role in student understanding of priority ELA standards. Long gone are the days of copying down notes from a PowerPoint.
Interactive notebooks provide a way to organize thoughts, accommodate for visual/kinesthetic learners, serve as a reflection piece, and provide an opportunity for student ownership.
Students will use these notebooks everyday in our class. For bell ringers, introduction to different units, academic vocabulary, and reflecting. The notebooks will stay in my classroom to ensure use and to prevent them from being lost, stolen, etc.
