My students need paper, notebooks, and materials for our math and literacy journals. Math and literacy journals are a great way for students to keep track of their learning throughout the year.
Our school is an Artful Learning school with a focus on the performing arts. Our students access the curriculum and state standards through arts based strategies and projects. This year we have partnered with our local university to provide additional experiences in the arts which include dance, yoga, drums, pottery, tumbling, keyboarding, and violin, among others. Our students are excited about having the opportunity to participate in learning experiences they may not have otherwise.
Our students come from low socioeconomic households with a variety of challenges that often impede their ability to succeed in the classroom.
The basic needs of our student often go unmet outside of the school doors. Many students deal with behavioral issues as a result of trauma, stress, or other emotional disabilities. Our students deserve to feel the sense of pride that comes with overcoming obstacles and achieving goals.
My Project
My students need paper, notebooks, and materials for our math and literacy journals. Math and literacy journals are a great way for students to keep track of their learning throughout the year. Rather than practice our learning with worksheet after worksheet, most of which end up in the trash, my students benefit from having interactive notebooks for literacy and math that document their learning and provide a resource they can refer to when they have forgotten something we have covered. These notebooks are also taken home at the end of the school year to show their progress over the course of the year. I would like to have sturdy composition notebooks that can last all year and hold all of our practice, writing, and work in literacy and math. I have also requested Astrobrights paper which allows me to color code and provide variety for students when we are adding things to our notebooks. This paper also saves time in that every learning craft doesn't have to be colored by students. Additionally, we never seem to have enough glue sticks to last through the year with all the gluing we do in our interactive notebooks. Next school year I will be adding to my notebook projects for my class and I want to make sure we have all of the resources we need to make these notebooks successful!
