I work at a public high school that serves students from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. This is my first year as a Red Tornado, and I'm piloting an interactive notebook plan for students to utilize for a reference rich in material, study guides, flashcards, and manipulative activities.
So far, we have had some noticeable growth from students who have kept an up to date notebook that they interact with, and I hope to implement this strategy throughout the school year.
Most of my supplies are from my personal budget, and times can be tough. My students are wonderful and they need to be given the appropriate chance to blossom as lifelong learners.
Due to the diverse nature of socioeconomic backgrounds of the student population, I want to be able to provide each student with the opportunity to succeed with these interactive notebooks. My Project
I am requesting a variety of materials to create interactive notebooks including Crayola crayons and colored pencils, Post-it Notes, index cards, construction paper, Elmer's glue sticks, and erasers.
Interactive notebooks will help students get involved with the course materials for biology and chemistry class.
Students will utilize these activities to better their literacy skills and contribute to their understanding of science. These notebooks will allow students to review their vocabulary and give them a chance to review all the material discussed in class.
So far, students have shown growth with the use and interactivity of these notebooks. I'm hoping that with the continued use of interactive notebooks, it will allow students to demonstrate growth throughout the semester. As a class, we go through foldables together, as well as demonstrating organizational skills by keeping their notebook up to date with page numbers and a table of contents.
