My students are third graders from a rural school in West Plains, Missouri. They are eager learners and are working hard to become more independent. I want my students to enjoy their time being kids in the classroom.
So many students that come into the classroom need a place they can feel at home, feel safe, and feel they have some ownership in their surroundings.
Homelessness is an unfortunate circumstance that some of our students experience and the school is their safe place. The school feels like their new home. I would like to make all of my students feel successful in the classroom by providing them with materials they can use.
My Project
I am requesting 60 spiral notebooks for the entire 3rd-grade class. These will be used as our interactive math notebooks all year long.
Third graders learn several new skills that require a lot of practice.
We learn rounding, estimations, multiplication, division, area, perimeter, fractions, elapsed time, liquid measurement, measurement to 1/4 inch, and financial literacy. All of these things are brand new skills so we spend a lot of time working on math fluency and word problem skills.
I am also requesting white card stock that will be used to create math games and anchor charts printed with color ink. These things will help the students memorize their new skills and use them in real-world situations.
