Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember what it was like when you were in middle school taking notes from a lecture? Taking out your paper and pencil, well not anymore. We take out our scissors, glue and markers and we explore the subject of math.
My students are sixth graders who have just begun their first year of middle school.
They are learning that they have much more responsibility when it comes to school. Many of them have not had to take notes or keep track of things for six different classes. We are working on helping them with both in fun and engaging ways that help keep them motivated to stay focused.
My Project
Some of my students are not able to afford school supplies and we need supplies to help keep students engaged and motivated in the note taking process. Using the markers helps students who need to the see step by step process when they are able to write the steps in different colors to help break it down. Colored copy paper will be used to create foldables that can be used to help focus on vocabulary, introduce math concepts, or to even review how to solve problems. The notebooks provide a resource for students to refer to later on in the year. It is one place for them to organize all of their math notes, so they do not get lost in their binder or lockers.
As sixth graders my students are learning how to get organized and learning how to take notes.
The notebooks provide one place for them to keep everything, as they are learning how to keep things organized. Using the interactive notebooks has been an engaging way for my students to start the note taking process.
