Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I just finished my first year teaching at an amazing school. The school truly believes in "Every student enters with a promise and exits with a purpose".
My students crave learning math with hands-on and engaging lessons and activities.
Many of my students come to class without essentials such as pencils and paper and from challenging social lives. I want to be able to provide my students with all the supplies, resources and activities that they need in order to enjoy learning math and to be successful.
My Project
Math needs to be fun.
With these supplies, I will be able to provide numerous hands on activities and to provide instant feedback on student mastery of skills.
The dry erase sleeves/sticky notes/stickers allow for instant and individualized interaction/feedback/communication with the students. For example, I will use the dry erase sleeves during activities for them to record their answers. Based on each others entries, the student will be able to revisit prior responses and edit them as they increase their knowledge during the activity. The sticky notes allows for continual communication among the students and myself during a lesson without disruption to the activity at hand. It allows for instant feedback for every student throughout the lesson.
The dice, pencil boxes, calculators and laminator/sheets will allow me to provide hands on activities for an interactive and fun math class. Our classes utilize foldables, projects and matching games (to name a few activities) in which the pencil boxes (containing markers, colored pencils, tape, dice, erasers, calculators, etc) will be help keep the supplies organized. The laminator will be useful for the matching games, card sorts and other activities that will be re-used every year.
These supplies will be organized and quickly accessible to share with team teachers for similar activities.
My goal is to ensure learning math is fun and to increase the number of students success and confidence in math. I want to increase student's interest in pursuing math/science related careers.
