Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students need a variety of learning tools which include technology and realia. They need to be exposed to seeing/touching objects to enhance their vocabulary. Another tool they need is the use of computers with interactive learning games.
Many of the students do not have access to a computer at home and therefore are not taking full advantage of this tool.
They would greatly appreciate learning math and language arts through the use of our computers. The Language Tubs will provide my students exposure to objects they have never seen or heard of. They will be able to explore these objects and increase their vocabulary. English is a second language for a majority of my students and having interactive tools (such as computer programs or realia) is essential for them to learn.
My Project
The software that is part of our curriculum is outdated and our classroom computers cannot support it. Therefore, we need updated software to enhance learning through technology. The students will not only learn how to use a computer, but also develop skills for language and math. We will use the software during our learning centers and create a 'computer center' for them to learn. The Language Tubs will be used when introducing a new letter and sound, they will be able to see/touch/dialog with each other and the class. They will increase their English vocabulary and oral language skills.
Providing our class with these items will have a huge impact in our classroom.
The students will be introduced to learning with computers and by holding on to real objects (miniatures of course). They are always excited to learn new letters, sounds, numbers, etc, so enhancing their learning will only make it more enjoyable and memorable.
