My fifth graders are comprised of low socioeconomic families, ranking our school as Title I. My student groups include a variety of learners, including ESL, gifted/talented, and special education. They like hands-on, active and engaging projects!
My students, regardless of their various backgrounds, enjoy learning!
Last year, our community was hit by Hurricane Harvey. Our school lost a total of 12 classrooms. These students lost brand new school supplies and their teachers lost classroom materials and resources. Forced to leave our destroyed classrooms, students had to attend class wherever we had found spaces to teach in. For an entire year, these student learned math and science in our school's library. Classes were held in the computer lab, counselor's room and their music teacher held class outside and in the cafeteria. In face of the challenges these students faced, they overcame it!
