Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our elementary school has a high percentage of students identified as low income, as well as many students with a history of trauma. I am a special education resource teacher, so I work mostly with students that have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), but also with some that do not.
My students are in kindergarten through 6th grade, and face many stressors every day.
Despite the many things my students deal with outside of school, they are loving, funny, and eager to build relationships.
My Project
My school district is continuing distance learning until at least October. Many of students I work with struggle with staying engaged during in person learning, which makes teaching them from a distance even more difficult.
Having a subscription to Pear Deck would help me pace my lessons and keep students actively engaged during distance learning.
The Orton Gillingham curriculum I am using requires many multisensory strategies that are difficult to implement from a distance. However, Pear Deck has the functionality to embed the different multisensory activities into a google slides presentation. I would be able to keep students on a certain slide with me, and they will be able to complete activities on each slide that I will immediately be able to see.
A Pear Deck subscription would also help maximize instructional time by limiting student's need to navigate between various assignments and PDFs. The entire lesson would be in one google slides presentation, which is where they will complete all of their work!
