My Students
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty & crime school district, my students are faced with a numerous amount of challenges both inside and outside of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to make my classroom a safe environment for my students to gain pride within themselves and their learning while providing a creative and meaningful instruction.
When my student walk into my classroom I focus on their learning potential and personal growth.
Many of them are being raised in low-income households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Which have prevented my students from reaching their full potential and proficiency. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience in my classroom and give them time to relieve the outside stressors that they face outside of school.
My Project
Our school is Title I and is limited not only on resources but on supplies for my students to use. Many times, school supplies is left for student to buy on their own. However, my students already have financial hardships within their family that prevents them from having the funds that are require form them to make learning gains form their low proficient level. Usually in my class which ranges from 20-25 students, everyone has to share the supplies which takes up most of the class time and doesn't allow us to get through the content material at a necessary pace for my already low performing students to thrive.
With your help, my students will not only have ALL the materials they need to creatively but they will have the opportunity to push forward and overcome obstacles they face in their environment knowing that their are those outside of their community committed to seeing them succeed.
My student will also be receiving graphic novels on Shakespeare Macbeth and Romeo & Juliet in which it will help them in understanding the language and plot on texts that will be most challenging for them.
