Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students who will hopefully benefit from this project are in grades 3-6 in the second largest urban school system in Massachusetts. 97% of the students enrolled qualify for free or reduced lunch. The majority of the students are ELL (English Language Learners) and the number of students who have been diagnosed with learning disabilities and qualify for special education services exceeds local and statewide percentages. My students persevere daily despite the lack of supplies and materials. I would love to try and even the playing field to give the quality education every child deserves.
My Project
Where I need your generosity would be in the purchasing of headphones for each Chromebook so that students can take full advantage of their Chromebook experience.
For example, a struggling reader can listen to grade-level text to better access the curriculum or be tutored online in a struggling area of math.
Without headphones, the close proximity of students makes it difficult for concentration and individual learning to take place simultaneously.
Acquiring these headphones would provide the students in my school with the opportunity to take full advantage of the interactive capabilities of the Chromebooks which we were lucky to be provided by the district.
Imagine a classroom where students with reading disabilities are listening to a grade-level story, which they would not otherwise be able to access while sitting next to a student who is being tutored online in math.
