Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Elementary Spanish is such an enthusiastic and fun classroom to be in. I have the privilege of teaching students in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Seeing 22 different classes in a week, I get to be with 500 wonderful students throughout my school year!
These classes are a mix of native and non-native Spanish speakers who are all excited to learn more Spanish.
We are part of an amazing school which is encouraging our students to become globally-minded as they make contributions in class and in the world. These students work hard to have a new mindset and see what impact learning a new language has on their life.
My Project
My students have been great at taking risks this year! Part of taking those risks is being inquirers and using new words in Spanish. We have had opportunities to do that during stations where we can focus on the new vocabulary through interactive activities. These students have been enjoying using a few desktop computers to play games; however, more students would get the chance to use technology in the classroom more often if we had your help funding new ipads.
By donating iPads more students will get a chance to explore using Spanish through games, videos, songs, and interactive apps that support language growth.
They will be able to practice autonomy as we move from group activities to student-centered activities where everyone can practice vocabulary and grammar skills independently.
