My Students

Struggling readers need motivation to want to read and learn. Applications on the iPod are exciting and new for many of our students and excite the students and renew a desire for learning.

My students range from Kindergarten through sixth grade.

They are all having difficulty with reading and work with me in a small group setting for 30 minutes daily. Our students want to succeed and try very hard, but being that we have a very high poverty level, many do not get the opportunity at home. Our school is also lacking in technology that other campuses have.

My Project

The Apple iPod Touch is a very powerful learning tool. There are hundreds of affordable educational applications to reinforce reading skills. It is interactive and highly motivating for the students. It can be used with the teacher, with other students, or independently. Students love games and gadgets and in turn will probably beg to play and learn on the iPod Touch. The applications range from letter/sound knowledge to reading leveled readers independently. There is even an application that allows the students to read a passage and tells them how fluently they are reading and will help track their progress.

I work with students that have failed the state assessment in reading and are working hard to close the gap.

As a teacher, I am constantly looking to find ways to help motivate the students and keep them engaged. I feel like bringing in technology that the students love is the best way for this day and age. Please consider this project. You will be helping many students on my campus. Thanks!
