Interactive = Fun!

My students need one laptop computer with a DVD player/burner. We would like to use it in conjunction with a new LCD projector that we just received.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students can do anything! They have the enthusiasm; all they need are the tools to help guide them! I teach first grade at a high needs school in a high needs community. We have a lot of spirit but not a lot of resources! We want to be pro-active and make changes for our classroom and create a fantastic learning experience and environment!

So...here's the latest....last year we received a new laser printer for the whole grade level to use and since I am grade level chair person, it was housed in my room. I also had two desktop computers as well. Well...our school has a tendency to get vandalized, and yet again, our classroom was broken into and our computers and the big, huge laser printer were stolen! It was shocking just in the fact that the printer was so big that it would seem too difficult for someone to steal! It's always a terrible, ugly feeling when your classroom has been vandalized because it feels very personal, like someone has violated our space and went through our things! We discussed this at length, about the situation and how bad it is to steal, to take something that does not belong to you. My students all felt a sense of disappointment and betrayal. How could someone come in and take our things, especially things that are very important to us and the school?! So we just had to move on and since we could not afford to replace the missing items, we have to do without.

This new school year, every class received an LCD projector. This has proved to be a wonderful tool for my students. We can do so much with it. It is so much better than the old overhead projectors! We can put actual three dimensional objects on it and it will project it! We just started a new math program and it involves the use of a lot of hands-on manipulatives. This is so great for first graders! We use the projector a lot to model the use of the manipulatives during guided instruction. The laptop that we are requesting would be an invaluable resource for my students. We would be able to plug it into the LCD projector and utilize all of the interactive DVDs from the math program. These include animations and interactive student lessons, math games and even ways that students can monitor and graph their progress. We can also use the laptop across the curriculum, which would include language arts, making connections to the topic and themes of stories and literature. Expository writing could be researched and, throughout the writing process, information could be shown immediately on the white board! There are so many ways we can accommodate various learning modalities of all students.

Your support and generosity will benefit my students. It will provide them with a sense of how important it is to strive, have goals, achieve those goals and take what you have learned and know and do something positive and good with it. When people are good to you, then you are good to others. They can take what they have learned and received and in turn, enrich their lives and those around them. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated...my students will lead by example. It will provide them with empathy and a sense of selflessness. The generosity and kindness bestowed upon them will, hopefully, be given back to the community! We are very excited about this project and we hope you are, too! Thank You!
