Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is made up of 25 students all from the small town of Coalinga, California. Most of these students come from families that work out in the fields, in prisons, in a mental health facility, as well as other day to day jobs. These students have taken off this year with a huge running head start!
Although I am not teaching in person, I have felt the students excitement about being back at school, and their readiness to learn.
In my classroom I like to have a fun, inviting, and safe place for the students. Although these students may be too young to realize what is going on in the world they have been in for the ride with me, while navigating through distance learning. For the time being, we have been working 100% online through Zoom as well as through Seesaw. These students have taken this new challenge to a whole new level and have shown that they are ready to learn whatever is thrown at them!
My Project
One of the main things I learned when students teach was to get the students engaged and excited for what is to come in the lesson. Through distance learning that has been more difficult to do because the students face so many distractions in their homes and it may be hard on them to stay focused when they are being asked to just watch the screen. One of the things I have seen all over social media and all over teacher blogs is something called "interactive notebooks".
This gift card would supply me with enough money to buy the material needed to cover the rest of the year and years to come with ELA and Math.
Interactive notebooks give students the chance to build their notes into notebooks in order to make a "cheat book" to go back and look at all throughout the year. Interactive notebooks start as a piece of paper with the topic material on it and are usually cut out and glued into a notebook to save the notes for any given time.
In first grade there are many ELA and Math skills that are very essential for years to come. Not only will this book be created in our class but the students can look back in this book at any time and any year in school to help them boost their learning.
This can make a big difference in students learning for years to come.
