My Project

Many autistic children have sensory processing challenges. Manipulatives provide tactile and kinesthetic stimulation, helping them engage with and understand their environment better. Hands-on activities with manipulatives can help improve attention and focus. The physical interaction with objects can engage autistic children more effectively than purely verbal or written instruction. Many manipulatives involve fine motor skills, and working with these materials can contribute to the development of coordination and motor skills in autistic children.

Provide ASD students with a means to demonstrate their thinking, when they struggle to express themselves in words or writing.

Manipulative toys are wonderful tools for teaching children with ASD. These include toys that encourage mathematical skills, counting, sorting, and learning patterns. They are oftentimes tactile and sensory.
