I teach 5th grade math to around 80 students. These students are amazing, fun, smart children. Our classroom is not just teacher lead, but the students have ownership in their learning and are able to lead as well. We use a math workshop approach in our learning. Students are allowed to move around the room and find the best learning area for themselves. We use hands on activities and try to incorporate as much technology into our lessons as we can.
My goal is to help students love math by the time they leave me!
I want them to see that there are many different ways to solve a math problem and that everyone can be good at math. I just need to help them find the way that best suits their learning.
We have students from many different financial backgrounds. Our school is a uniform school and as part of our school, all students receive free breakfast and lunch. No child should have to be hungry.
My Project
Having an interactive white board will allow the students to manipulate word problems by teaching drag and drop skills, using mathematical tools such as the protractor, ruler, etc. Our state testing is done all online and having an interactive way for the students to see and practice the same style they will be test on will help students to have a greater understanding.
Students need to be able to create and solve math problems in multiple ways using multiple outlets.
Having an interactive white board will give my students this opportunity.
Students will also have the ability to create their own projects using the interactive white board. By them creating their own lessons and sharing them with the class, they have brought their own understanding to a higher level.
