My students come from a high poverty area. They face many challenges at home and in school. Many of them are lacking in basic school supplies. Most are low academically, but they come to school everyday, ready and eager to learn.
I want my students to have the best third grade experience possible.
Our school budget is very small and I buy a lot of materials myself. I need some help to give my students what they need to be more successful in the classroom. I cannot control what my students experience outside of school, but while they are in my classroom, I strive to provide them with everything I can to make them feel cared for and successful.
My Project
This year I started using interactive notebooks in my classroom and they have been a huge success! Interactive notebooks are a tactile way for students to reinforce concepts that we are learning in class. They involve a lot of hands-on time and help to keep my students engaged throughout the lesson. We use our notebooks for both math and writing.
Interactive notebooks help make learning an active experience rather than a passive one.
Students are constantly cutting, gluing, reading and answering problems. I like that they keep my students engaged and students like them because they are more fun than typical worksheets.
While these notebooks have been a wonderful addition to our class, I don't have enough supplies to sustain us for the rest of the year. I am asking for your help in providing these basic supplies to help keep our interactive notebooks as a part of our classroom.
