I work with bright students, some of whom excel in other subjects, but have major challenges with reading due to dyslexia, other disabilities, and outside factors.
Imagine if all of our struggling readers reached their potential and overcame low self-esteem to become the next Steven Spielberg, Anne Bancroft, Richard Branson, or Octavia Spencer.
My Project
Research on the brains of struggling readers shows significant, positive change when students are provided the right instruction, materials, and time. I believe all students can learn to read to at least grade level and even become the transformers of our society.
I want to ramp up my Orton Gillingham instructional approach by helping students take more ownership of their learning through interactive notebooks.
The notebooks will provide another multi-sensory avenue to help my students' neural pathways get connected more efficiently so they can retrieve and recall the same information as their peers.
By donating to my classroom, you will help bring the interactive notebooks to life! Funding of this project will provide my students with special writing paper, 3-ring binders, and a 3-hole punch. The notebooks will hold their written work, spelling rules, self-made visuals, thinking maps, and progress trackers. Thank you for believing in the potential of these children!
