Vince Gowmon once said that “The art of teaching lies in knowing the balance between structure and flow, telling and asking, speaking and silence.” Such an appropriate expression needed in today's classroom as we find the balance of leading and being led into learning.
I have the distinct pleasure of teaching curious, eager, and energetic kindergarteners in Herriman, Utah.
I serve a diverse socioeconomic community. Many students enter kindergarten with a limited range of phonological awareness and kindergarten becomes a place of tremendous growth for them.
Our school and classroom climate promotes a sense of community and accountability. Our rules and expectations are focused on showing kindness, respect, and safety in our place of learning. And, as I'm sure you can imagine these eager kindergartners will rise up to the challenge every time.
I have ambitious hopes and dreams for them to read, write, discover, question, make new friends, and a plethora of other inspirational aspirations. I am eager to dive into the school year and see where it takes us.
My Project
These jump ropes, hula hoops, and skip balls, along with bean bags for hopscotch markers will be used to help reinforce socially distanced social interactions among my kindergarten students while utilizing the nature of the activities to reinforce counting, number recognition, predicting, resilience, and effort.
Students won't even notice they are strengthening their math skills because they'll be so engaged in their physical activity.
Some students will be challenged to develop their coordination as well as their large motor skills. With the student at the center of all of our objectives, my main goal is to guide students in working together and to encourage one another while learning the skill of jumping rope.
