Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher at Live Oak Elementary in rural Fallbrook, California. This area has a high migrant population due to the agricultural influence. Fifty percent of my students are English Language Learners who are socioeconomically disadvantaged, and on free and reduced lunch. Nevertheless, my students showcase an inherit love for learning and technology.
Through their education, they recognize they can develop the tools to overcome any barriers to success in life.
It is my hope, and a major focus in my practice, that I can aide in closing the achievement gap for my much deserving students.
Being from a lower socioeconomic status does not have to be a barrier in school, and my students prove this to me everyday through their hard word and determination! I believe if my students have more innovative tools to further engage and excite them to learn, I can further develop them into 21st century leaders.
My Project
I want to bring technology into all aspects of my student's learning. These iPad Minis will offer a tool to better connect my students with the their educational goals. The iPad Minis will be used to assist students with their literacy around high frequency words, decode a variety of phonemic patterns, as well as research a given topic for classroom projects.
Technology will provide my students with greater opportunities to be more actively engaged in their learning experience.
Together, we will build upon our resources and discover the importance of using technology to better understand lessons both within and outside of the classroom.
