Technology is moving so fast these days! My classroom has 5 very old computers with outdated programs on them. Our upcoming Language Arts curriculum will rely heavily on technology and I am worried we are not prepared! Integrating technology with iPads is a great place to start!
Our school is located in an area where a large percentage of students receive free and reduced lunches.
Family support is difficult at times, but not impossible. I have been at the school for a long time and truly enjoy being part of this community. A part of a school that just happens to be in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
I have told anyone who will listen how wonderful my students are. I spend my days with children who support one another. When someone falls, another is there to catch. When a student is chosen for a privilege offered to only one, the others clap instead of moan. I see kindness each day and feel so lucky.
My Project
I would like to add technology to my literacy and math centers. I would like to provide experiences for students on tablets that they may not have the opportunity to have outside of school. I have used several apps at home with my own children that I always wish I could use with my students.
Our school has a computer lab that we usually can visit once a week, however, once the state testing begins we cannot go until all make-ups are finished. Once a week is not enough exposure to the online and digital learning available to children. By adding iPads to a reading center, I will be able to give my students hands on activities to help with fine motor skills as well as literacy development. My goal is to one day have 6 iPads to use in a small group on a daily basis. For now, I am requesting only 2. It's a start!
