Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Wonder is the beginning of wisdom."- Socrates. My students wonder about everything. They are enthusiastic and excited about learning and researching new topics.
My students will be the inventors, leaders, and scientists solving problems for our 21st century.
Many of my students come from socioeconomic challenged families. They deserve an education that will prepare them for the demands of our 21st century. I want to challenge my students to build strong literacy skills, use technology, and develop researching skills.
My students are a part of the gifted ALPS program (Accelerated Learning Program for Gifted Students). ALPS students are tested and represent the top 15% -20% of the students in the district. Gifted students have different needs. They need constant mental stimulation, variety, and choice in learning. They love to explore concepts deeply. Gifted students who are not challenged become bored and can lose their love of learning. Gifted students, who are challenged, can do amazing things later in life. I want to provide my students with remarkable learning opportunities so they can reach their full potential.

By combining the online interactive program called Nearpod with classic books that kids love, I want to create literacy lessons that engage students, provide instant feedback, and improve critical thinking skills.
Nearpod is an interactive multimedia slide presentation with embedded clicker-type technology. The Nearpod program provides my students with instant feedback through activities like open-ended questions, draw it, fill in the blank, matching activities, posting boards, quizzes, and polls.
For my project, I want to integrate the classic books of The Polar Express and The Country Bunny with the online Nearpod lessons to enhance our literacy discussions. With remarkable lessons, I can help students develop their critical thinking skills. Using technology, students can dig into classic books like The Polar Express and can learn to critically analyze books as they understand character motivations, big ideas, and multiple perspectives.
Best of all, Nearpod technology engages ALL students. With Nearpod technology, they are all actively answering questions and receiving instant feedback. Technology is part of my students' everyday lives, and it is how the 21st-century learner prefers to learn. Integrating technology into literacy lessons allows students to learn in a way that best fits their needs.
