Help me give my students 10 Hardy Boy mysteries, 17 Daisy Dreamer chapter books, 9 Isadora Moon books, solid tempera paint sets, and 3 Zoey and Sassafras books to enhance our integrated literacy and art unit.
I have a class of 24 delightful second graders. They are energetic and bright. They love learning about animals, rocks, weather, plants, matter, space, and all things scientific! They also love reading about almost anything, and learning new math concepts.
Many of my students come from homes with lots of books and learning opportunities, but many also come to school without the experience of home reading and enriching language opportunities.
All of my students are capable of learning with the right materials and teaching.
My Project
The students in my class love to read so receiving the Hardy Boys mysteries, the Daisy Dreamer and other chapter books would help provide a nice variety of books to choose from. Enough copies would be available for guided reading and reading during Daily Five.
Learning would be enhanced as students use the solid tempera paints to create "mind maps" of the books they read to show their understanding of the story structure and plot development.
This technique is a powerful way for students to demonstrate their knowledge.
A classroom library with a large collection of books makes such a big difference in the lives of children as their love of reading is developed!
