I recently made the switch from Middle School Visual Art Teacher to Elementary Art and it has been an immense pleasure getting to know the students at my new school!
My students are full of creativity, ambition and a willingness to work hard!
We are a public school, serving a large city in Missouri. While the students come from economically diverse backgrounds, many of my students belong to communities that lack resources and need the extra support we aim to provide in our classrooms.
The diversity in our school is something that students take pride in, and as such, our school aims to provide an environment that encourages differences.
My Project
Contemporary and Modern Art is often difficult to decipher, especially for young artists. In addition, finding ways to make these current artists accessible to students proves even more challenging.
By attending the art educator workshop at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, I will learn how to integrate these art movements into everyday curriculum, providing accessibility for all students.
The workshop not only provides insight into the work itself but also provides educators with lessons and resources to use in the art classroom. I hope to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary and modern art and artists that I can share with students and enrich their understanding of art and the art world!
