My students are fantastic workers and eager to learn. It's amazing to see the engagement when I am teaching a lesson. The students participate and ask questions on a regular basis.
Despite being a very low poverty area, my students are always eager to please and learn.
I'm in awe that these students, who come from struggling families, are so eager to better themselves. It empowers me as a teacher to better myself and reach for the stars as well.
My Project
Students are going to begin reading the novel, "Island of the Blue Dolphins". The novel is a story of survival and perseverance when a young girl is stranded alone on a deserted island. It teaches students about the ever important themes of hard work, dedication, friendship, and self-reliance.
After completing many hands-on activities and writing assignments, the students will create a mural representing the characters and the struggles they face throughout the novel.
Our mural will be completed by three different fifth grade classes and compiled together to form one masterpiece. Students thoroughly enjoy having this work of art on display for the rest of the school community to admire.
