Integrating Art into Geometry!

My students need construction paper, tissue paper, crayons, drawing paper, glue sticks, and clay to explore shapes in different art mediums.

My Students

First grade rocks! My students come into the room each morning with smiles on their faces and an eagerness to learn! They are excited about school and they make my job fun.

My students inspire me daily to be the best teacher I can be for them.

They work hard and they play hard. They deserve an amazing educational experience!

Our school is a Title I school, with over 75% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch and 100% of students receiving free breakfast. Many of them come from homes where their parents work hard to make ends meet and take care of basic needs. Luxuries and extras are few and far between, so school is a place where they can experience things that are out-of-reach at home.

My Project

My students are unique individuals who learn in many different ways. As their teacher, part of my job is to find out how each child learns best, then integrate those manners of learning into our curriculum. I have noticed this year that many of the students in my classroom are artistic and learn well when art is integrated into our core subject areas.

Integrating art into math is a great way to hit on the strengths of the artistic students in my classroom.

Geometry lends itself well to art integration, and I am so excited to incorporate art into our math lessons! We will use construction paper and glue to build 2D and 3D models of shapes. Clay will be a great material to use for making 3D shapes as well!
